The Village Hall, along with the Social Club, was built on land given to the Village by Mr and Mrs Fred Bristow in memory of their son, Sgt C. F. Bristow, who was killed on active service in 1942.
The original village hall building was moved and re-erected from RAF Cranwell to the village in 1936. After over 30 years of use, this building became harder to maintain, so it was decided that a new village hall would be needed.
Previously, a Bowling Green had been created on the land, followed by the Tennis Courts and Playing Fields. Land was then set aside for the new building and an adjoining carpark.
A stone laying ceremony took place in 1967 with Air Vice Marshal T. N. Stack laying the stone. The hall was subsequently opened in 1968, with the Earl of Ancaster receiving the key on behalf of the village from builder, Jack Cooling.
If you have any information, stories, or photographs of the history of the Village Hall, we would love to hear from you so we can share more of our community’s story here.
